Ipswich Town suffered a dramatic 4-3 defeat to Brentford in the ninth round of the Premier League.
The match’s standout anti-hero for Ipswich was defender Harry Clarke, who had a day to forget. He not only scored an own goal but also conceded a penalty and received a red card, setting an unwanted Premier League record that seemed nearly impossible to match.
Clarke is now only the second player in Premier League history to score an own goal, concede a penalty, and be sent off in the same match, following Jan Bednarek of Southampton, who achieved this against Manchester United in February 2021.
Interestingly, this was Clarke’s first Premier League start; prior to this match, he had played only 27 minutes in a game against Everton earlier this season.
