At a press conference announcing Thomas Tuchel as the new head coach of the England national team, FA executive director Mark Bullingham disclosed that they had engaged in talks with several English candidates. However, one notable manager was missing from that list.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe confirmed Alan Shearer’s comments that he had not been approached by FA representatives. Nonetheless, Howe stressed that the decision lies with the governing body of English football.
“No, there was no contact from the FA. England has to do what’s right for them, and only they know what processes they went through and the decisions they made. I’m not the one to analyze that.
For me, it’s all about Newcastle and trying to win matches, and that’s challenging enough if you’re 100% focused. I’ve always approached my job that way. If you let your standards slip, the job becomes impossible, and I’ve never allowed that to happen.”
