Arsenal icon, Ian Wright has advised manager Mikel Arteta to start new signing Noni Madueke in place of the injured Bukayo Saka when the Gunners take on Liverpool.
Saka suffered a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Liverpool on Saturday, a match that also marked the club’s second consecutive win of the Premier League season and maintained their perfect home record.
Newcomers Viktor Gyokeres and Jurrien Timber each scored twice, while Saka added the fifth goal to cap off a dominant performance. However, the win was marred by injuries, with captain Martin Ødegaard exiting early due to a shoulder issue, followed by Saka pulling up in the 53rd minute.
Speaking after the match, Arteta revealed that Saka’s injury could be “significant,” raising concerns over his availability for upcoming fixtures.
On Premier League Productions, Wright expressed concern over the extent of the injury, estimating a potential four to six-week absence. He suggested Madueke as a suitable replacement in the meantime.
“This is why signings are important,” Wright explained. “Madueke can switch flanks and cover for Saka. I’m not saying he’ll replicate Saka’s impact, but he can step into that role. That’s his preferred side, and now he’s got a real opportunity.”
With two wins from two games, Arsenal currently sit at the top of the Premier League table and will be hoping to continue their strong form despite the injury setbacks.
