A major controversy is unfolding in European football as La Liga president Javier Tebas announced that national football leagues are preparing to file a lawsuit against FIFA in the European Union court, according to Marca.
Tebas revealed that a joint press conference will take place on Monday, featuring representatives from FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers), La Liga, and the English Premier League. During the event, they will voice their dissatisfaction with FIFA’s recent decisions, particularly the creation of a new Club World Cup, which no national league supports.
“We are now forced to accept the new Club World Cup because FIFA has decided it. But no national league agrees with this,” Tebas stated.
Tebas argued that global football should not be dictated by the interests of just 300 players and 20 clubs, as domestic leagues are already suffering due to changes in the Champions League format. He also emphasized FIFPro’s recognition of the need to address this issue on an international level.
Some players from top European clubs have raised concerns about the overcrowded football calendar, but authorities have yet to take action.
