Teenage Winger Lamine Yamal Aims to Become a Barcelona Legend Lamine Yamal, the 17-year-old winger, has expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona for his entire career and become a legend at Camp Nou.
Yamal gained attention this summer by becoming the youngest player to score in the European Championships, where he also helped Spain win the tournament. At the club level, Yamal has quickly become crucial to Hansi Flick’s revamped Barcelona squad following a standout debut season.
With one goal and four assists already this season, Yamal is focused on his future at Barcelona and shared his ambitions during an interview on Spanish television show El Hormiguero.
“I hope I never leave Barcelona. I want to be a legend at the club,” Yamal said.
When asked about being compared to football legends like Lionel Messi, Yamal responded: “Being compared to the best in history is incredible. It means I’m doing something right. I try to be myself and hope to be remembered as Lamine.”
Yamal has also been nominated for this year’s Kopa Trophy, awarded to the best young player at the Ballon d’Or ceremony. Reflecting on his nomination, he said, “I found out when my friends told me while we were in the elevator at the national team. I don’t think I will win, but it’s nice to be recognized.”
Barcelona will return to La Liga action on Sunday against Girona, with Yamal expected to feature after a successful international break with Spain, including a 4-1 win over Switzerland and a draw with Serbia.
