In the sixth round of the English Premier League, Manchester City faced a disappointing outcome as they were unable to secure an away victory against Newcastle United.
Compounding their struggles were ongoing injury issues, which have plagued the team recently. Under the management of Pep Guardiola, Manchester City has experienced a troubling downturn in form, having drawn their last two league matches.
According to the analytical portal Squawka, the situation has been particularly dire for the “Citizens,” who had endured a streak of four consecutive Premier League matches without a win prior to facing Newcastle, a stretch marked by the absence of key players Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne from the starting lineup.
Following the match against Newcastle, their winless streak has now extended to five matches, raising significant concerns for Guardiola and his coaching staff.
In a recent interview, Guardiola addressed the recovery status of De Bruyne, expressing optimism that the Belgian playmaker would be returning to the pitch soon, which could provide a much-needed boost to the team’s performance.
Unfortunately, the news surrounding Rodri is far less encouraging; the Spanish midfielder sustained a serious injury during the match against Arsenal and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
This injury leaves Manchester City not only without crucial depth in their midfield but also intensifies the pressure on Guardiola as he seeks to navigate through this challenging period.
