Erik ten Hag has revealed that left-back Tyrell Malacia is close to returning to Manchester United training.
Malacia has been out since the summer of 2023 after undergoing knee surgery, missing the entire season. Though named in United’s Europa League squad, Ten Hag urged fans to be patient but confirmed the 25-year-old is nearing a return to action.
“Of course, we want to motivate him to return, but it’s not easy after being out for so long,” Ten Hag said. “He’s working hard and progressing well. He’s making big steps, and we expect him to join team training soon.”
Malacia’s return will be a welcome boost for United, who are still without Luke Shaw, their only other natural left-back. In recent weeks, Diogo Dalot has filled in on the left, while new signing Noussair Mazraoui, though a natural right-back, has also played on the opposite side. Youngster Harry Amass, 17, impressed in pre-season and has been training with the first team this season.
