Manchester City are unbeaten in the Premier League since December 2023 and will look to continue their impressive streak against Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
City have started the 2024/25 season strongly, winning their opening matches with ease, including victories over Chelsea, Ipswich Town, and West Ham United. Erling Haaland has been in superb form, scoring in each game and netting two hat-tricks so far.
Pep Guardiola’s squad will be boosted by the return of Rodri, who featured for Spain during the international break, though he will be without Oscar Bobb and Nathan Ake. Phil Foden and summer signing Savinho are also doubts, giving Brentford a slight chance.
With the Champions League campaign starting next week, here is how Manchester City could line up against Brentford.
Manchester City predicted lineup vs Brentford (4-1-4-1)
GK: Ederson – Having only been a substitute for Brazil, Ederson will be well-rested for the match. While he may not face many shots, he will need to be alert against Brentford’s in-form attacking duo of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa.
RB: Rico Lewis – With Kyle Walker’s delayed return from Euro 2024, Lewis has impressed in the right-back role. His strong performances earned him a call-up to England’s senior squad.
CB: Manuel Akanji – Akanji has been solid at the start of the season, keeping John Stones out of the lineup. He is expected to start unless Guardiola decides otherwise.
CB: Ruben Dias – Despite an own goal against West Ham, Dias remains a key part of City’s defense and will be crucial against Brentford.
LB: Josko Gvardiol – Gvardiol has not been as attacking from left-back as he was last season, partly due to Lewis moving into midfield, limiting his forward runs.
DM: Rodri – Rodri’s return is eagerly anticipated. His presence in midfield is especially valuable in high-profile matches, although City have managed well in his absence.
RM: Savinho – Savinho missed the West Ham game with a minor injury but is expected to be fit for Saturday. His pace has made a significant impact for City.
CM: Bernardo Silva – Silva’s versatility allows him to play in various midfield roles. He is likely to switch between deeper and more advanced positions against Brentford.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – De Bruyne has been unfortunate not to score recently but has delivered strong performances, including a goal and assist against Ipswich and a brace on international duty.
LM: Jack Grealish – Grealish has shown his form with England and is expected to start on the left wing. He will compete with Jeremy Doku for the position.
ST: Erling Haaland – Haaland has been exceptional, scoring seven goals in the first three Premier League matches. He will be aiming for a third consecutive hat-trick this weekend.
