Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca has openly criticized Enzo Fernandez’s first-half performance during the Blues’ 2-0 Premier League win over Fulham on Saturday.
Despite Fernandez scoring one of Chelsea’s two goals — alongside Joao Pedro — Maresca admitted the Argentina international fell short of expectations in the opening 45 minutes.
Fernandez, who looked visibly frustrated as he walked off at half-time, was later praised for his improved display in the second half.
When asked post-match about the midfielder’s reaction, Maresca explained: “The answer is, he is a Club World Cup winner, he is a World Cup winner. And when he is not good enough, he can recognise it.”
He continued: “Probably he was upset for that. Because in the first half, I think he wasn’t good enough. Then in the second half, he was, like the rest, brilliant.”
Chelsea’s victory marked another positive step in their campaign, with Maresca showing he expects high standards even from his most decorated players.
