Chelsea head coach, Enzo Maresca has heaped praise on defender Trevoh Chalobah following the Blues’ 2-0 Premier League victory over Fulham on Saturday.
The win marked Chelsea’s second clean sheet of the season, and Maresca was quick to highlight Chalobah’s importance, not just this season, but in the club’s recent successes.
“Since he came back in January, he’s doing very well,” Maresca told reporters. “The reason why we achieved what we achieved last season is also because of Trev. In the final against PSG in the Club World Cup, he was top. He’s doing very well and we are happy with him.”
Chalobah played a key role in the backline as Chelsea secured all three points at Stamford Bridge, with goals from Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez sealing the win.
Despite the result, Maresca admitted he wasn’t pleased with Chelsea’s first-half performance. He revealed that Joao Pedro’s goal just before the break prompted him to head straight to the dressing room to address the team.
“The first half was poor,” Maresca said. “That’s why I rushed off the bench as soon as we scored — there were things we needed to fix.”
Chelsea now look to build on their momentum as they continue their Premier League campaign under the new manager.
