Mikel Arteta has extended his commitment to Arsenal by signing a new three-year contract, keeping him at the Emirates until 2027. This new deal could see his tenure in north London extend to eight years.
“I’m extremely proud, excited, and looking forward to what’s next. I’m fortunate to work with such great people every day and am inspired by the ambition we share at the club,” Arteta said in a statement. He also credited the club’s supporters for their role in transforming both the team and the individuals within it, stating, “We look forward to continuing the journey together.”
Arteta’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of this season, but after leading Arsenal to consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League, the club moved to secure his future. Since taking over from Unai Emery in December 2019, Arteta has revitalized Arsenal’s ambitions, turning them into genuine title contenders after a period of mediocrity.
Under Arteta’s leadership, Arsenal won the FA Cup in his first season, and after three years of missing out on the top four, they finished second in both 2022/23 and last season. This season, the Gunners have started with two wins and a draw and are preparing for the North London derby against Tottenham on Sunday. However, Arteta faces a selection challenge, as captain Martin Ødegaard, along with Mikel Merino and Declan Rice, will be unavailable due to injury and suspension.
