Former Chelsea and Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, is reportedly among the leading candidates to become the next manager of Nottingham Forest, following the club’s decision to part ways with Nuno Espírito Santo.
The update was shared by talkSPORT’s transfer insider Alex Crook via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Nottingham Forest announced the sacking of Nuno late last night, just under two weeks after a 3-0 home defeat to West Ham United, which further intensified pressure on the Portuguese coach.
According to Crook, three names are currently being considered by the club’s hierarchy: Jose Mourinho, Marco Silva (currently at Fulham), and Ange Postecoglou, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager.
In his post, Crook stated: “Ange Postecoglou one of the early front runners to replace Nuno at #NFFC. Marco Silva also admired by the hierarchy there, and Jose Mourinho another option, although I understand Edu and Marinakis want a more progressive playing style, which was one of the issues with Nuno.”
Mourinho was most recently sacked as head coach of Turkish side Fenerbahçe, and his availability, alongside his Premier League pedigree, makes him a notable option.
However, the club’s owners, Evangelos Marinakis and Edu, are reportedly prioritizing a manager with a more progressive and attacking style of football—something they felt was lacking under Nuno.
