Today, Manchester City officially announced that their key central midfielder, Rodri, has torn his ACL and will be out for an extended period. Head coach Pep Guardiola shared his thoughts on the impact of losing the Spanish player.
The Spanish coach likened Rodri’s injury to last year’s absence of Kevin De Bruyne, highlighting the necessity of finding a way to cope with the situation.
“When you lose the best midfielder in the world for a long time, it’s a significant setback. But it’s my responsibility to navigate through it. When a player is irreplaceable, we must adapt as a team, just as we did when De Bruyne was sidelined.”
Rodri is expected to miss the remainder of the season after sustaining the injury during the match against Arsenal, which ended in a 2-2 draw. He is considered one of the main contenders to challenge Vinícius Júnior for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
