Earlier this year, non-league club Kettering Town underwent a change in ownership, with the new owners making ambitious promises. They have begun to fulfill those ambitions by signing a third player with an impressive football background.
Competing in the Southern League Premier Central, the seventh tier of English football, Kettering has added former Norwich City and Celtic striker Gary Hooper to their roster. The 36-year-old forward, who has been a free agent since leaving Barnet in July, joins the club on undisclosed terms.
Hooper brings notable experience, including seven Champions League appearances during the 2012/2013 season with Celtic, where he scored twice. He joins other notable players at Kettering, such as former Newcastle striker Nile Ranger and ex-Bolton and Burnley forward Marvin Sordell.
Kettering’s ownership changed hands in early 2024, with manager George Akhtar and former Barbados international Fabian Ford now at the helm. Akhtar has expressed his ambition to restore Kettering Town to the English Football League.
