Victor Osimhen was unable to find the net in his second debut for Galatasaray on Friday night, as the Turkish champions cruised to a 3-0 victory over newly-promoted Fatih Karagumruk.
The Nigerian striker, who missed the opening-day win against Gaziantep, started the match on the bench. Baris Alper Yilmaz, who scored twice in that opening fixture, was preferred in the starting lineup once again.
Yilmaz justified his selection by opening the scoring in the 10th minute. The visitors’ hopes of a comeback were further dashed when Marius Doh received a straight red card following a VAR review.
Osimhen was brought on in the 61st minute but failed to register a goal. Just over 10 minutes after his introduction, Galatasaray doubled their lead courtesy of an own goal by Karagumruk defender Fatih Kurucuk.
Mauro Icardi, who came on in the 81st minute, sealed the win with a late strike in the 87th minute.
While Osimhen didn’t get on the scoresheet, Galatasaray will be encouraged by the depth in their attacking options as they look to defend their Super Lig title.
