Former defender Raphaël Varane has been appointed to the board of directors of Como, as announced by the club in an official statement on Saturday.
The rumors regarding Varane’s continued involvement with Como have been confirmed, with the Frenchman set to focus on “youth development, education, and product innovation.”
Varane’s appointment is part of a long-term strategy to enhance the club’s standing in Italian football. Como’s Indonesian owners previously signed former Arsenal star Cesc Fàbregas as a player and later appointed him as head coach of the first team.
Varane, who previously played for Manchester United and Real Madrid, joined the Serie A club last July. However, after suffering an injury during pre-season training, he opted to retire at the end of September.
