Varane is only partially French, as his father Gaston hails from Martinique, while his mother Annie was born in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, near Valenciennes, on the French-Belgian border.

Raphael Varane’s Injuries

Injury struggles have been a persistent issue throughout Varane’s career. Since breaking into the first team at Lens in 2010, he has spent a total of 702 days sidelined—nearly two years in total. Each season saw him out for at least two weeks. His most severe injury came in May 2013, when a torn meniscus kept him out of action for five months.

Varane’s talent on the pitch translated into lucrative contracts. According to Capology, during his time with Manchester United, he earned €11.5 million annually. His total earnings from salary alone, excluding bonuses, are estimated to be around €68 million.
