Sergio Agüero is preparing to wear Independiente’s jersey once more, though not for a professional comeback. The 36-year-old former striker is set to join the club’s Senior League team, which is made up of players over 35. According to Infobae, Agüero is officially listed in the competition’s roster and could make his debut this Monday against archrival Racing at the Estadio Libertadores de América.
Agüero had previously made a brief appearance in March 2024 during “La Noche del Rey,” a special club event, but was forced to leave the field after just 10 minutes due to a shoulder injury.
Although there were rumors suggesting a return to top-flight football under Carlos Tevez, Agüero ultimately turned down the opportunity. His cardiologist had stated that 20 minutes on the pitch wouldn’t pose a health risk, but Agüero admitted that the physical commitment would be intense and would interfere with his current lifestyle.
His connection to the club remains strong, with his son Benjamín now playing in Independiente’s youth system, and Agüero often visiting to support him. While his professional career is firmly behind him, the “Kun” will now have the chance to enjoy football again in familiar colors, this time without the pressures of elite competition.
