Former Manchester United stars Teddy Sheringham and Rio Ferdinand have shared their reactions to Marcus Rashford’s surprise loan move from Old Trafford to Barcelona.
The deal, now officially completed, sees Rashford join the Catalan giants on loan, with all documents signed between the clubs. The England international reportedly accepted a 15% pay cut to facilitate the move and arrived in Spain over the weekend to complete his medical with Barça.
Sheringham, however, questioned the merit of the transfer, arguing that Rashford hasn’t earned such a high-profile switch.
“I hope Rashford doesn’t get the move he’s hankering for,” Sheringham said in comments published by The TouchlineX. “If you’re going from Man United to Barça, that’s a step up—but he doesn’t deserve it! You can’t deserve it if you haven’t put the hard work in.”
In contrast, Ferdinand offered a more constructive take, encouraging Rashford to bring something fresh to the Barcelona attack.
“Marcus Rashford has to go in there and do things that are different from the strikers and attacking players they already have,” Ferdinand said. “Make runs off the ball, be a threat in behind. Make teams take a step back when Rashford is on the pitch.
“Shoot—he’s got a lethal shot with that right foot. Shift it, shoot. Don’t be one of those players who over-dribbles and complicates things. If Rashford manages to do all this, this deal will be a steal—a real steal!”
