Tuberculosis is no longer considered a widespread disease, and since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, viral illnesses have largely faded from public concern. However, the recent news from Dutch club PSV has brought these health concerns back into focus.
The Eindhoven club’s press service revealed that one of their players has been diagnosed with an open form of tuberculosis, which can spread through airborne droplets. Despite this, PSV assured that there is currently no evidence to suggest that anyone else has been infected.
As a precaution, safety measures have been implemented, and the situation is being closely monitored according to established protocols. The affected player, whose identity is protected by Dutch law, is reported to be in good health, with further updates expected to follow.
Update: Following the initial announcement, Dutch media have reported that former Arsenal player Lucas Perez, who joined PSV in January, has been diagnosed with tuberculosis.
