Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, is nearing a return to action following an injury and could potentially feature in the Champions League. However, for that to happen, the club must meet one condition.
According to Mundo Deportivo, to include ter Stegen in the Champions League squad for the remainder of the competition, Barcelona would need to unregister Wojciech Szczesny, who has been a regular starter this season.
It is reported that the club is currently leaning towards keeping Szczesny as the main goalkeeper for the remainder of the season, with ter Stegen possibly making his comeback in the final rounds of La Liga.
This means that if Barcelona advances to the Champions League semifinals, Szczesny is unlikely to be removed from the squad.
Ter Stegen has resumed training on the field, but it is not expected that he will be included in Barcelona’s La Liga match squad until the end of April.
In related news, it was revealed yesterday that Hansi Flick blocked a potential transfer of Luis Diaz from Liverpool due to concerns over the player’s age.
