RB Leipzig has parted ways with head coach Marco Rose following a 0-1 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach, which saw the team drop to sixth place in the standings and put their Champions League qualification at risk. Leipzig has struggled on the road, failing to win any of their last six away matches, three of which ended without scoring, ultimately leading to Rose’s dismissal.
Club sporting director Marcel Schäfer explained that, despite the long-term support for both Rose and his staff, the decision to change coaches was necessary to provide a new direction and boost the team’s chances of achieving their goals.
Rose took over at Leipzig in September 2022 and made a strong impact, guiding the team from 11th to third place and securing a Champions League spot while also winning the German Cup in 2023.
The club will announce a new head coach soon, with the decision being urgent as Leipzig prepares for a critical Cup semifinal against VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday, a match that could determine the course of their season.
Along with Rose, his assistants Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth, and Frank Geideck, as well as head of licensed players department Frank Aehlig, were also let go.
