South Korean footballer Hwang Ui-Jo, currently playing for Alanyaspor, is facing serious legal trouble following a sex scandal that could lead to jail time.
According to BBC reports, the 31-year-old forward could face up to four years in prison for allegedly recording sexual encounters with two women without their consent.
The scandal came to light when one of the videos was released by Hwang’s ex-girlfriend in an attempt to blackmail him. Hwang responded by filing a lawsuit, which resulted in the ex-girlfriend being sentenced to three years in prison.
However, Hwang is now under legal scrutiny as two former partners have accused him of secretly filming their encounters on four occasions without their knowledge or consent.
During a court hearing in Seoul, Hwang admitted to his actions and expressed his desire to focus on his football career. The court has not yet issued a final ruling.
In light of the scandal, the Korea Football Association has permanently removed Hwang from the national team. The striker had previously earned 62 caps for South Korea, scoring 19 goals.
Hwang has scored twice in three appearances for Alanyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig this season and has also played in Europe with clubs like Bordeaux, Norwich, and Olympiacos. Although he was signed by Nottingham Forest, he did not make any appearances for the English club.
Just two days ago, it was revealed that Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé is also under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct.
