Spain’s national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, has hinted at dissatisfaction with his current contract, suggesting he deserves a new one. However, the Spanish Football Federation is not ready to offer an updated deal just yet, and here’s why.
According to Cadena Cope, the delay is due to ongoing organizational issues within the federation. Former president Luis Rubiales was suspended after a scandal, leaving interim president Pedro Rocha and the temporary committee without the authority to negotiate or modify de la Fuente’s contract.
Rubiales had promised de la Fuente a new deal with a higher salary, but with his suspension, that promise remains unfulfilled. The coach will have to wait until new, permanent leadership is in place to resolve the matter of his contract and pay.
De la Fuente currently earns around one million euros annually, which is significantly less than his predecessors.
