Uriel Antuna arrived at Tigres as one of the most high-profile signings of the season, but his time in Monterrey has yet to live up to expectations. The Mexican winger, once a top scorer for Cruz Azul, has failed to find the back of the net for his new club and is stuck in an ongoing goal drought.
Antuna’s last goal came during the first leg of the Clausura 2024 final while still with Cruz Azul. Since then, he has gone 34 matches without scoring—six with Cruz Azul and 28 with Tigres, according to Mediotiempo. On Tuesday night, he started in the Concachampions quarterfinal first leg against LA Galaxy but was substituted in the 73rd minute without contributing a goal or an assist.
His playing time has also decreased. In the Apertura 2024, he played just 405 minutes across four starts, and in the current Clausura, he has logged only 368 minutes in Liga MX and Concachampions, with just three starts. So far this season, he has managed only two assists in 33 appearances.
This drop in form is a stark contrast to his breakout Clausura 2024, where he finished as the top scorer while playing as a striker under Martín Anselmi. That version of Antuna now seems far removed. Despite the buzz and high expectations surrounding his arrival, Tigres are still waiting for their investment to pay off as Antuna struggles to regain his form.
