The United States Men’s National Team is expected to drop to 19th place in the upcoming FIFA rankings, which will be released on April 2, according to As USA. This decline follows a disappointing performance in the Concacaf Nations League, where the USMNT lost both the semifinal to Mexico and the third-place match.
In contrast, Mexico took advantage of its strong showing by winning both of its games, earning 50 points and rising to 16th place with 1,677.4 points. The U.S., on the other hand, will have 1,645.48 points, slipping three spots from its current position.
Senegal and Iran are also set to surpass the U.S. Senegal gained points with a draw against Sudan and a win over Togo in the CAF World Cup qualifiers, totaling 1,674.75 points and remaining in 17th. Iran, after defeating the UAE and drawing with Uzbekistan in AFC qualifiers, earned 1,672.81 points, moving up to 18th.
While FIFA rankings don’t always reflect on-field performance perfectly, this drop underscores the need for the USMNT to regroup. With friendly matches scheduled for June and the 2025 Gold Cup approaching, head coach Mauricio Pochettino will need to find a way to spark a turnaround, restore the team’s regional dominance, and regain lost ground on the international stage.
