Alex Noren has been appointed as the fifth and final vice captain for Team Europe ahead of the 2025 Ryder Cup, set to take place at Bethpage Black in New York from September 26–28.
The Swedish golfer joins returning vice captains Francesco and Edoardo Molinari, Thomas Bjørn, and José María Olazábal — all part of the team’s winning effort at Marco Simone in 2023. Noren replaces Nicolas Colsaerts, who served in the role two years ago.
Noren, 42, previously contributed two points from three matches during Europe’s 2018 Ryder Cup victory at Le Golf National in France, famously sinking a 40-foot putt on the 18th hole to defeat Bryson DeChambeau in the final Sunday singles match.
“It was a big shock when I found out. I didn’t expect it at all,” Noren said. “I want to bring a good attitude to the team room. Bring some knowledge. I’ve been in this game a long time.”
Captain Luke Donald praised Noren’s character and familiarity with current team members. “He’s a humble guy — it’s never about Alex,” Donald said. “We practice together at the Bears Club in Florida, where a number of players on this year’s team also train. That connection will be really useful.”
Noren’s appointment also strengthens Europe’s Scandinavian ties, with team members including Rasmus Højgaard (Denmark), Viktor Hovland (Norway), and Ludvig Åberg (Sweden).
