The National Hockey League community was deeply saddened by the passing of Ray Shero, the former general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils.
The Minnesota Wild, where Shero had served as a senior advisor, confirmed the news. He was 62 years old.
Although Shero never played in the NHL—despite being drafted by the Los Angeles Kings—he became widely known for his successful tenure as the general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Under his leadership, the team reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2008, and the following year, in 2009, they claimed the championship.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman paid tribute to Shero, saying, “Ray Shero’s smile and charisma lit up every room he entered and brightened the day for everyone fortunate enough to interact with him. He was widely respected in the hockey world for his ability to build teams and recognize talent, but he was even more loved for how he treated the people who were fortunate enough to know him.”
In other news, Meredith Gaudreau, wife of the late hockey player Johnny Gaudreau, shared joyous news on Instagram this Monday, revealing that she welcomed a son last week, their third child.
