Yesterday, the Italian national team suffered a 1-2 defeat to Germany in the opening match of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals. During the match, they also lost a key player.
Arsenal’s left-back, Riccardo Calafiori, was forced to leave the field late in the game due to a knee injury. The injury occurred when Calafiori slipped and landed awkwardly on his knee. Head coach Luciano Spalletti mentioned that they are still unsure about the exact nature of the injury.
“We don’t know yet if he’s injured. Ricky feels something unusual in his knee, but we still don’t have a clear picture,” said Spalletti.
The return match against Germany is set for Sunday, March 23.
Calafiori now faces the possibility of missing the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid on April 8.
As a side note, it was reported yesterday that Arsenal’s captain, Bukayo Saka, is expected to recover in time for the match against Real Madrid.
