Since joining Real Madrid in 2018, Andriy Lunin saw limited game time initially, but his standout performances last season solidified his reputation. His decision to extend his contract further bolstered the team’s faith in him.
According to Marca, Lunin has complete support from the squad and staff, and his presence now inspires confidence on the field.
With Courtois sidelined again, Lunin has seamlessly taken over as the primary keeper and will remain in the role until Courtois’s return. A major test awaits in today’s El Clásico. Last season, Lunin defended Real Madrid’s goal in two matchups against Barcelona, both of which resulted in victories for Los Blancos.

Andriy Lunin transferred to Real Madrid from Ukrainian side Zorya for €8.5 million. His current contract, valued at €25 million by Transfermarkt, runs until 2030.
In the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, Lunin made just five appearances, later seeing more action with 12 matches, achieving eight wins, two draws, and two losses. Last season marked his breakout year; after Courtois’s long-term injury, Lunin competed with Kepa Arrizabalaga, ultimately securing the starting spot until Courtois’s return. Lunin finished the season with 31 matches, contributing to 22 wins, eight draws, and just one loss for Real Madrid.
