In a blow to Manchester City’s title hopes, top scorer Erling Haaland has been ruled out for 5 to 7 weeks after sustaining an ankle injury during the FA Cup quarter-final.
Yesterday, Manchester City confirmed the extent of Haaland’s injury, and today, manager Pep Guardiola provided an update on the striker’s recovery.
Quote:
“The doctors told me that Erling will be out for five to seven weeks,” Guardiola said.
This means Haaland will likely miss the final stages of the Premier League season, with his return expected in the last 2-3 rounds. However, he is expected to be fit for the upcoming Club World Cup.
So far this season, the 24-year-old has netted 30 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions.
Reminder:
Manchester City currently sits in fifth place in the Premier League after 29 rounds, and Guardiola’s side is battling to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.
