On Thursday, October 10, the first quarterfinal matches of the tennis tournament in China took place, with Jannik Sinner facing Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz playing Tomas Machac.
Sinner had little difficulty defeating the world No. 5. He dominated the first set, winning 6-1 in just 26 minutes. The second set was more competitive but still went to the world No. 1, who secured a 6-4 victory.
The major surprise came in the other quarterfinal, where Carlos Alcaraz, the favorite, was upset by Czech player Tomas Machac. Machac won the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5), and despite Alcaraz’s fightback from 1-3 to lead 4-3 in the second set, Machac held his nerve to win 7-5, eliminating the world No. 2.
As a result, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner will face Tomas Machac in the semifinals.
