On Monday, April 28, a major energy crisis struck Western Europe, leading to widespread power outages across several countries, including Spain. As a result, today’s scheduled matches at the Madrid Open have been canceled.
The organizers announced that both the day and night sessions of today’s games would not take place. The decision was made due to safety concerns, with the disruptions stemming from circumstances beyond their control.
“In light of the nationwide power outage in Spain on April 28, and to ensure overall safety, both the day and night sessions of the Mutua Madrid Open have been canceled for reasons beyond the organizers’ control,” the statement read.
