Tuesday night’s US Open quarterfinal match was a perfect example, as Djokovic defeated No. 4-ranked Taylor Fritz—who has the most match wins in the past three months—in four sets, 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.

“It’s not going to get easier,” Djokovic told reporters after the match. “I’m taking it one day at a time, focusing on recovery and trying to get my body ready for a potential five-set battle. I want to be fit and ready to give my best against Carlos. It’s going to require my best tennis, but I’m ready to rise to the occasion.”

Djokovic currently leads Alcaraz 5-3 in their head-to-head, including an undefeated 3-0 record against him on hard courts, with wins in Cincinnati, the ATP Finals last year, and the Australian Open earlier this year.

The other men’s semifinal spot will be decided Wednesday after the quarterfinal matches between Alex de Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Jannik Sinner versus Lorenzo Musetti.
