Just two months after retiring from professional tennis, Petra Kvitova is celebrating a new chapter in her life: she and husband Jiri Vanek are expecting their second child.
The two-time Wimbledon champion, who turned 35 this year, married her longtime coach Vanek in 2023 and welcomed their first son, Petr, during last year’s Wimbledon fortnight. Kvitova announced her retirement after a brief 2025 comeback, concluding her career at the US Open with a first-round loss to Diane Parry.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Kvitova posted a family photo and wrote in Czech and English: “Our little boy will soon become a big brother.” Congratulations poured in from fellow players, including Belinda Bencic, Sorana Cirstea, Carla Suárez Navarro, and Elena Vesnina.
Ahead of her farewell tournament, Kvitova reflected on her decision to retire: “Mentally, I think I can’t do it any more, as well as emotionally and physically … I still love tennis, but everything else—waiting for practices, waiting for the car, waiting for a match—it’s just tiring. And having a son, it’s a totally different life. I just want to spend more time with him as well.”
After a career spanning two Grand Slam singles titles and countless memorable moments, Kvitova is now embracing family life as her new focus.
