On the night of Thursday, March 27, the decisive quarterfinal matches of the WTA Miami Open took place, revealing the four semifinalists.
The biggest shock of the night was the exit of world number two Iga Świątek, who was defeated by world number 140 Alexandra Eala, ending her run for the prestigious title. In the other matches, there were no major surprises.
Aryna Sabalenka easily defeated China’s Qinwen Zheng, Italy’s Jasmine Paolini overcame Magda Linette without much trouble, and Jessica Pegula triumphed over Emma Raducanu with a 2-1 scoreline. The remaining matches ended with a 2-0 result.
As a result, the Miami Open semifinals will feature:
- Aryna Sabalenka vs. Jasmine Paolini
- Jessica Pegula vs. Alexandra Eala
These matches are scheduled for the evening of March 27, stretching into the night of March 28.
The Miami Open is one of the most prestigious tournaments on both the ATP and WTA tours and is often considered the “fifth Grand Slam.”
As a reminder, Iga Świątek set a historic record in WTA 1000 events by reaching the round of 16 in 25 consecutive tournaments at this level.
