Barcelona plans to extend veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny’s contract for the upcoming season, but sporting director Deco is already keeping an eye on the position for next summer.
According to Sport, Szczesny has agreed to give Deco more time before an urgent search for a new goalkeeper is necessary, but Deco is still monitoring potential candidates.
Brighton’s first-choice goalkeeper, Bart Verbruggen, has attracted the club’s interest. At 22 years old, Verbruggen fits the profile Deco is seeking. However, he is contracted with Brighton until 2028, meaning he would not come cheap for any potential suitor.
Other names on Deco’s list include Lucas Chevalier from Lille and Marcin Bulka from Nice.
Verbruggen has been with Brighton since 2023 and has earned 22 caps for the Netherlands national team.
As a reminder, Bayern Munich has also shown interest in Verbruggen, seeing him as a potential long-term successor to Manuel Neuer.
