Former Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll has criticized Alexander Isak for his reported attempt to force a move to Liverpool during the ongoing summer transfer window.
Isak, 25, has allegedly refused to play for Newcastle and has gone on strike, making it clear he wants to leave St. James’ Park to join the Merseyside club. As a result, the Swedish international will not feature in Newcastle’s upcoming Premier League clash against Aston Villa this weekend.
Carroll, who came through the ranks at Newcastle before earning a move to Liverpool himself, expressed disappointment over Isak’s stance, describing the situation as a “shame.”
Speaking to Sky Sports, Carroll said:
“Isak is not from Newcastle, so he can act like he is acting now and think it is acceptable. It’s a big move for him, but the way he’s playing his cards at the minute, the Newcastle fans are not going to back him.”
“It’s a shame because he is such a good player and every Newcastle fan wants him to stay — the manager wants him to stay,” he added.
The situation continues to unfold as Newcastle look to convince one of their key players to stay, amid mounting pressure from both fans and potential suitors.
