German football legend Thomas Müller is officially heading to Major League Soccer. The 34-year-old veteran will join Vancouver Whitecaps, with a deal finalized that will see him sign a two-year contract starting this August.
After an illustrious 15-year career with Bayern Munich, Müller has opted not to retire just yet, instead choosing to embark on a new chapter overseas. The transfer marks a major moment not only for the Whitecaps but also for MLS, as the league continues to attract top-tier European talent.
A World Cup winner in 2014 and one of Germany’s most decorated players, Müller made over 650 appearances for Bayern Munich, winning 12 Bundesliga titles, 2 Champions League trophies, and numerous domestic cups. Known for his intelligence, positioning, and unique playing style often referred to as the “Raumdeuter” (space interpreter), Müller’s arrival is expected to bring both experience and global attention to the Canadian club.
This move represents a significant shift in MLS recruitment, showing that North America continues to grow as a serious footballing destination. The Whitecaps, currently in pursuit of a strong playoff run, are expected to benefit not only from Müller’s on-field contributions but also his leadership and championship pedigree.
Fans in Vancouver and across North America will now get the rare chance to see one of Europe’s greats take the pitch in MLS. The Müller era in Canada begins this August.
