Tel was loaned to Watford in January to secure more playing time after struggling to make an impact at Bayern Munich. In his seven matches for Tottenham, he has scored just one goal, leaving his future at the club uncertain. Under the terms of the agreement between Bayern and Tottenham, the London club holds an option to buy him for €55 million (£45.7 million).
However, Bayern may intervene in the deal as they are considering recalling all of their loaned players ahead of the Club World Cup, which begins on June 14 in the USA. Although Tel’s contract with Tottenham ends on June 30, FIFA will open a new transfer window from June 1 to June 10, allowing Bayern the opportunity to terminate the agreement and bring Tel back. A new transfer window will then open on June 16 and run until September 1, which could complicate matters for Tottenham if they wish to keep him.
Tel has not ruled out the possibility of staying at Tottenham, believing the move was the right choice for his development. He has highlighted the support he received from the club, including regular communication with the coach and management. However, Tottenham’s coach acknowledged that it has been a tough period for Tel, as he has not had much playing time, and he continues to work on improving his form.
