The preliminary round of the 2025 NORCECA Women’s Final Six wrapped up with Mexico staging a dramatic comeback, the USA maintaining an unbeaten record, and Canada securing a thrilling victory over Cuba.
Mexico rallied from a set down to defeat the Dominican Republic 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-23), clinching second place with a 4-1 record. Hosts Aime Topete (14 points) and Samantha Bricio (10) led the charge, while Madeline Guillen topped the Dominicans with 19 points.
The USA continued their flawless run (5-0) with a straight-sets sweep of Puerto Rico, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-13). Samantha Francis and Claire Chaussee each scored 12 points, while Paola Santiago led Puerto Rico with 13.
Canada completed the night with a thrilling 3-2 comeback win against Cuba, overcoming a two-set deficit to win 14-25, 14-25, 27-25, 25-19, 15-11. Emma Boyd led all scorers with 19 points, supported by Sydney Grills’ 14. Cuba’s Whitney James was the top performer for her side with 16 points.
The semifinals are now set: USA will face the Dominican Republic, while Mexico takes on Puerto Rico. Canada and Cuba will battle for fifth place.
