Italian coach Marcello Abbondanza is reportedly the leading candidate to take over as head coach of the Bulgarian women’s national volleyball team. The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation is expected to announce its decision soon regarding the successor to Antonina Zetova.
Abbondanza is no stranger to Bulgarian volleyball, having previously led the national team from 2011 to 2014. He currently coaches Fenerbahçe in Turkey, recently guiding the club to a Super Cup triumph. His extensive résumé also includes stints with the national teams of Canada and Greece, as well as several top European clubs.
He is being considered alongside Ivan Petkov and Radoslav Arsov, but Abbondanza’s international experience and prior work with Bulgaria position him as the frontrunner for the role.
