Mexico and Colombia have both secured their spots in the semifinals of the 18th Men’s Pan American Cup after hard-fought wins in their quarterfinal matches.
Mexico defeated the United States 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 25-23) to book a semifinal clash against defending champions Canada. The U.S. will now compete in the classification round for 5th to 8th places, starting with a match against Puerto Rico. Oziel Aguirre led Mexico with 17 points, closely supported by Franky Hernández’s 15.
In an intense five-set thriller, Colombia edged out Chile 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 23-25, 15-12). Colombia will face Venezuela in the semifinals, while Chile moves to the 5th to 8th place bracket. Leandro MejÃa was Colombia’s top scorer with 16 points, alongside Andrés Piza’s 12, while Chile’s Dusan Bonacic stood out with 22 points.
