Türkiye reached a milestone by advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship for the very first time. After narrowly losing a tight opening set 27-29, the Turkish team bounced back strongly to claim the next three sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-19, securing a 3-1 victory over the Netherlands.
Adis Lagumdzija led the charge with an impressive 28 points. Outside hitter Efe Mandıracı was a key contributor as well, delivering three aces in the fourth set and finishing with 15 points. Mirza Lagumdzija, Adis’ brother, added 13 points, while middle blocker Bedirhan Bülbül contributed 12 points through a combination of blocks and aces.
On the Dutch side, Michiel Ahyi scored 21 points and Tom Koops added 14, but their efforts fell short against Türkiye’s momentum.
Türkiye will now face either Poland or Canada in their historic quarterfinal match scheduled for Wednesday.
