The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Rankings saw major shifts this week, coinciding with the celebration of World Volleyball Day on July 7, 2025. The update follows last week’s Gstaad Elite16 event on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, with emerging talent and shifting podium finishes shaking up both the men’s and women’s standings.
Men’s Ranking: Swedish Duo Make Top 10 Debut
Swedish rising stars Jacob Holting Nilsson (20) and Elmer Andersson (19) made headlines by breaking into the top 10 for the first time, climbing seven spots to World No. 10. Coached by former standout Rasmus Jonsson, the young duo stunned the field by starting in qualifications and finishing with silver in Gstaad—their first-ever Elite16 podium. The result earned them 1,100 points, of which 800 were netted after dropping a lower previous score, bringing their total to 4,880 points.
Qatar’s Cherif Younousse & Ahmed Tijan, former world No.1s, returned to the top five for the first time since October 2023. Their gold medal in Gstaad lifted them two places to No. 5, earning a 440-point net gain to reach 5,720 points.
Meanwhile, Dutch pair Stefan Boermans & Yorick de Groot, also former world leaders, jumped from No. 9 to No. 3 after clinching bronze and netting nearly the full 1,000 points from the tournament. They leapfrogged Olympic champions David Ahman & Jonatan Hellvig of Sweden, who skipped the event, and Argentina’s Nicolas & Tomas Capogrosso, who rose to No. 2 despite a 19th-place finish, due to favorable points turnover.
Still dominating the men’s ranking are Norway’s Anders Mol & Christian Sorum, who hold firm at World No. 1 with a commanding lead of more than 2,000 points, following a fifth-place finish in Gstaad.
Women’s Ranking: Swiss Sisters Soar Into Top 10
In the women’s rankings, Swiss sisters Anouk & Zoe Verge-Depre reached a career milestone by entering the top 10 for the first time. Their bronze medal in Gstaad marked their fourth straight podium finish on the Beach Pro Tour. As a newly formed team, they currently retain all ranking points earned, now totaling 4,392 points across seven qualifying events, propelling them up 11 spots to World No. 10.
Despite defending their title successfully in Gstaad, USA’s Kristen Nuss & Taryn Brasher slipped from 5th to 7th in the rankings. Their points remained unchanged at 4,690, as they replaced last year’s result with an identical score, offering no net gain. They were overtaken by Latvia’s Tina Graudina & Anastasija Samoilova—silver medalists in Gstaad—and Brazil’s Carol Solberg & Rebecca Cavalcanti, who netted 460 points despite a modest finish.
At the top, Brazil’s Thamela Coradello & Victoria Lopes maintained their No. 1 position, holding a 1,480-point lead. The rest of the top four remains unchanged: USA’s Terese Cannon & Megan Kraft (2nd), Germany’s Svenja Müller & Cinja Tillmann (3rd), and Austria’s Dorina & Ronja Klinger (4th).
This latest ranking update highlights the rapid rise of young talent and the highly competitive nature of the Beach Pro Tour as the sport continues to grow globally. The timing of these breakthroughs, on World Volleyball Day, underscores the bright future ahead for both new and established stars.
