Zenit started strong, with Dmitriy Volkov and Mikhail Labinskii leading confident play in the opening set. Yenisey fought back in the second, powered by Vitaliy Fettsov’s defensive skills and aggressive attacks, but Zenit quickly regained control to take the final two sets and secure the win.
Head coach Alexey Verbov praised his squad’s resilience, noting that while communication still requires fine-tuning, the team “handled the pressure well.” Volkov added that Yenisey’s energy “kept the match intense from start to finish.”
Earlier in the day, Orenburzhye Orenburg recovered from a slow start to defeat Gorky Nizhny Novgorod 3–1 (15:25, 25:22, 25:23, 26:24). After dropping the first set to Gorky’s strong serving, Orenburzhye rallied behind Artyom Aleksandrov and Vadim Yutsevich, whose decisive points in the closing sets clinched the comeback victory.
